"Unanimous" is a short documentary I created for "Tales of the American South," a project produced by Morehead Planetarium and the UNC School of Media and Journalism. I pitched this story because my family is from Louisiana and I knew the 2018 elections were set to be a defining moment for criminal justice reform in a state with one of the most broken justice systems in the world. I shot the film over four days in New Orleans and edited it for a community screening and submission to Louisiana-based editorials.

Kiana Calloway’s life was changed forever by Louisiana's non-unanimous jury statute. Now he has gone from solitary confinement to canvassing the streets of New Orleans for electoral justice. He is part of a bipartisan coalition who believe that reform is possible for the criminal justice system… they just have to convince the rest of the state.
